The xequerê, or shekere, (pron: shake-uh-ray) is originally from West Africa, and is a staple of African and Afro-Brazilian music. It is played by shaking it and/or hitting it against the hand. Learning to play it is a piece of cake — learning to play it WELL and bring out the range of tone this deceptively simple instrument is capable of is a whole different story.

These brightly colored, hand woven xequeré (shekere) instruments are not only works of art in their own right, but also create a beautiful, rich sound.

Handcrafted in Salvador, Brazil.
